Cockle Festival not to be missed! Day 9 and 10 September with lots of animation!

The Berbigão Festival is back at the Polidesportivo da Figueira, in the parish of Mexilhoeira Grande, for the 19th edition, scheduled for the weekend of September 9 and 10, between 7:00 pm and 1:00 am, not missing the tasty gastronomic proposals and popular music.

The event bets on typical dishes of the Algarve cuisine, such as cockle pasta, cockle rice, cockle porridge, cockle patties or cockles to the natural, all made on site, complemented with regional sweets and pastries, as well as other food and drinks.

Figueira has been organizing this festival for about two decades, as a way to celebrate a mollusk that has deep roots with the local population, because the cockle harvest in the Ria de Alvor is lost in the mists of memory, and the business of its sale has supported many families since ancient times.

Buba Espinho and Giletes d'Aço

In the musical program of September 9, and beyond the performance of Marcelo Rio, it is worth mentioning the participation of the young talent Buba Espinho, whose repertoire reconciles the Alentejo singing and fado.

On Sunday, the 10th, the animation will be in charge of Cláudio Rosário and the Portimonense band Giletes d'Aço, which combines music and humor in a very own style.

Tickets cost 4 euros, which include the offer of an ecological cup, and the Berbigão Festival is organized by Sociedade Recreativa Figueirense, with the support of the Municipality of Portimão and the Parish Council of Mexilhoeira Grande.
